Course Description
The e-learning course in Acute Medicine (ACUMEN) has been designed to provide comprehensive coverage of various aspects of acute medical care. ACUMEN has been developed by the Royal College of Physicians, The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, in collaboration with Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare. The course content has been authored by leading clinical experts in the UK, which is renowned for its expertise in acute medicine. So, it meets the highest quality standards.
You will get an opportunity to practice your skills in diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute medical conditions. There is a combination of case-based learning and knowledge sessions in the course. The case-based exercises will help you practice your skills in handling various emergency medical conditions using a virtual patient. Your performance will be compared against the expected responses given by expert clinicians and this feedback will help you identify any knowledge gaps.
You will learn how to:
- Review the medical history
- Perform virtual examination
- Create a management plan
- Review the patient outcomes
Apart from the case scenarios, there are knowledge sessions authored by practicing clinicians from the UK that will help you consolidate your learning. These sessions include many interactive features such as self-assessment exercises to reinforce learning. You can retake the sessions as many times as needed and record your progress online.
The course is aimed at clinical trainees handling acute medicine cases. In the Indian setting, this course will be beneficial to all doctors managing emergency cases including those working in primary care, emergency department, internal medicine and critical care departments.
Curriculum:
ACUMEN includes real-life scenarios and knowledge-based sessions which cover 65-major clinical presentations managed by acute medical units.
