Course Description
According to a recent health ministry survey, one in eight adults in India above the age of 30 has hypertension. Some studies from India have reported even higher rates, ranging between 25 to 33% for the prevalence of hypertension. However, only half of these subjects are aware of their hypertension status, and only one-fourth of treated patients had their BP under control. Hypertension is directly responsible for 57% of all stroke deaths and 24% of all coronary heart disease in India and adversely impacts public health and health expenditure in India. It is also ranked as fourth among the risk factors that drive most deaths and disabilities in India.
